Find a tutor you can actually check.
A person at Unotura looks at every tutor profile before it goes live. You see the rate, the subjects and the reviews before you book, and your payment is held until the session has happened.

Book and pay
Pick a session from their calendar and pay in the app. Your money is held until it has happened.

Video is built in, so there is nothing to install. Message your tutor between sessions.
Try the first 20 minutes free
Some tutors offer a free 20-minute introductory session, and their profile says so if they do. It is bookable once, so you can find out whether you work well together before paying for a full hour.
What you pay, and what it buys.
The rate on a tutor’s profile already includes our protection fee, so it is the amount you are charged. Nothing is added at checkout.

R120 is the figure on the profile before you book. Nothing is added afterwards.
Your money is held, not handed over
Payment sits with Unotura until the session has actually happened. The tutor is paid afterwards, which is what makes a session you paid for and did not get a refund rather than an argument with a stranger.
Cancellations follow published terms
The same rules for every tutor, applied by us rather than negotiated one at a time. Cancel far enough ahead and everything comes back, including the fee.
Every profile is looked at before it goes live
A new tutor stays pending until someone here has been through their profile, so nobody reaches your search results by signing up alone. If something goes wrong later we can suspend them.
Your card details stay with the payment provider
Card details go to our payment provider, never to us and never to the tutor. You are not sending money to a stranger, and nobody on the platform can see the card you used.
Someone to go to when it goes wrong
A session that did not happen, a tutor who did not arrive, a dispute about what was agreed: these come to us, and the money is still on the platform while they are sorted out.
How to tell who is worth booking.
Our check is what gets a tutor onto the platform. These are what let you choose between the ones who made it.
Reviews from sessions that actually happened
A review can only be left against a booking, so every rating on a profile came from someone who sat through the lesson. There is no other way for one to get there.
How many sessions they have taught
Profiles show the rating next to the number of sessions taught on Unotura, so you can tell five stars from one lesson apart from five stars from ninety.
Qualifications you can open
Tutors upload their certificates and degrees, and you can open each one from their profile instead of taking a line in a bio on trust.
Booking for your child.
A child cannot hold an account here, so you hold it and book on their behalf. That keeps the contract, the money and every message with you.
The account is yours
You hold it, you book, and you pay, so the contract and the money stay with you rather than with a learner who cannot enter into either.
Everything in one place you control
Messages with the tutor, the sessions booked, and every payment sit in your account. Nothing moves to WhatsApp, and a tutor never needs your child’s contact details.
If something goes wrong, you tell us
Report a tutor or a session from inside the app and it reaches us with the booking and the messages attached. We can suspend a tutor from the platform while we look into it.
Questions
What does it cost, and who pays it?
Tutors keep 100% of the rate they set. Students pay a protection fee on top of that rate, and it is already included in the price shown on a tutor’s profile, so the figure you see while browsing is the amount you will be charged. Creating an account, browsing and messaging are free.
What happens to my money before the session?
It is held rather than paid straight to the tutor. They are paid after the session has happened. Cancelling far enough ahead returns everything, including the protection fee; closer to the session the tutor keeps a share, because they have held the time.
Is there a free first session?
A tutor can choose to offer a free 20-minute introductory session, and their profile says so if they do. It is bookable once, by someone who has not booked that tutor before, so it is a way to find out whether you work well together before paying for a full hour.
Online or in person?
Both, and a tutor sets a separate rate for each. Profiles show the area a tutor works in and roughly how far away they are, never a street address, so you can judge an in-person session before booking one. Online sessions run on video built into the platform, in your browser.
Are tutors checked?
A person at Unotura goes through every new tutor profile before it goes live, and one stays pending until they have. Beyond that you can weigh a tutor up yourself: their uploaded qualifications open from the profile, the number of sessions they have taught sits next to their rating, and every rating came from a student who actually had the session.
My child is under 18. How does that work?
You hold the account and book on their behalf. A minor cannot enter a contract, so the account and the payment stay with you, which also means every message and every booking sits somewhere you can see.
